Today A Rude Brief Recitative

7 March 2006

The bright lights and loud noises have lost all meaning to me now.

An update from Ottawa, no? It is blindly cold at times here, not all that welcome to me really but that’s alright, I’ll endure. It’s been difficult as it seems that I am unemployable. Too bad for me but let’s not dwell on the unecessary, I’ve meandered my way back to let you all know a few things before I wander away again.

Foremost, music has taken a bit of a backseat to my other endeavors .. mainly my art attempts. I have been slowly picking my way through finishing up the first of many comics I will work on, while working on single art pieces to sell/place on shirts etc. I have set up a cafepress site for that, but also have been doing comissions that have come in (not that many, such is life). But musical things still do happen, currently I am making music for a documentary, then going back to my schtuff, also I’m mixing/producing a three-part EP for a friend from Istanbul .. look for it soon.

Enjoy your respective days.

Underneath the Paper Tiger

Weee Man

This Sleepy Rabbit is truly indulging and pampering us with his new music: Underneath the Paper Tiger. Have you listened to it yet? Is it wrong to use the word evocative? Because that’s what it is. It evokes all sorts of colours and smells of places I probably haven’t even been: the absolute middle of the ocean, islands overrun by birds and vegetables, the old booming silent places of the terribly deep.

But, as you might expect from M. Rabbit, this is not some innocuous atmospheric soundscape, and it’s no stretch of the imagination to picture yourself standing on the deck of a boat or on some quiet shore place listening to this and thinking that it might just be the soundtrack to something important.

The picture above is not related to Sleepy Rabbit, but I didn’t want to cause a hoo-hah by posting two entries at once, did I? It’s a picture of the Weee Man. Have you seen him already? I only saw him at the end of the year. He’s a special massive robot-like (but non-moving) man who is made of the kind of electronic equipment people are likely to throw away during their lives. Go to the website to get thoroughly told off about the amount of stuff YOU throw away.

He’s a big man, by the way. That’s a lawnmower, and that’s only a hoover. I think his teeth might be computer mouses. The picture is grey because it was late and it was nearly dark. I like the way he’s looming out of the dusk like a giant metaphor.

Arguments with strangers

A building in the fog in the morning

This is the kind of thing I have been seeing. It was some type of building looming out of the morning fog.

Although this is all very nice, what I really want is to have arguments with strangers. To make it more likely, I’m trying to think of politically incendiary statements to scrawl on my clothes.

Any ideas?

Enjoy. Music to follow either before or on Dec. 18th. I’ve got 6 songs almost completely sync’d and there’re quite a few more .. nothing a little thing like me can’t handle though.

Send me to the river, that’s far too far from sea ..

So, my friends, it’s nearly that time again. November is almost over, I’m almost leaving my place of birth after a long sabatical from the rest of the world (Truly, as I really have no spatial relations), and I have almost got a tasty new piece for you all at Seatunes. On US Turkey Day, the lo-fi-pro EP created for my pals at anal0g.org titled ‘The Big Let Down’ will crunch it’s way onto the small, secluded lake of the minds.

But back to your special release.
It is titled ‘Underneath the Paper Tiger’, and is an attempt to mesh some new-to-me sounds (the intelligent hip-hop beats with quirky hooks I’ve been dabbling with) with the old-news-to-you sounds (the lush garden of fallen leaves that makes a purring curse at you every time you step on the rocks), but not in the sense that it will be lush and floating hip-hop, more in the sense of tiny beats churned out slowly in between the ships of sound that sail across the seas of slush to come to a momentary rest at an archipelago of tasty beats but off into the the sunset once more.
The art for it is almost completely inked and the tunes themselves are skeletons of what they will become.

Regards

The latest thing I’ve done for the world (If they notice)

I released the latest bit of noise I have deemed worthy of the ear to the general populace, with malice in my heart and evil deeds done in my mind. You may or may not enjoy it at your leisure.

Further “news” to follow tomorrow ..

Sneaking Plastic Face Lady

Sneaking Plastic Face Lady, not a real lady

This lady, who I don’t think to be a real lady, but a plastic one in a shop window, sneaked into the memory of my mobile camera telephone, via the camera. This is the exact kind of thing that stops me updating this website.

So many things have been happening to me: one day there was a real lady in the underground playing discordant jazz on a saxophone. Another day, ‘elephant polo’ came up twice, at random, six hours apart. You see now, why?

Drugged by an unknown source while laying on the beach

At the start of September, when the most recent release by me came out on Polygon Network Records, finally since it was finished in February and the tracklisting is wrong but who cares .. anyway, back on track there is another release coming out on Hajota Records (also hosted on my site), a dub-inspired release titled ‘Put Down Your Guns, Violent Ones’ and a versus album with Ansomatica which I believe you will find very tasty indeed. Anyway, the point of this was actually to point out that as soon as that first release came out, Ansomatica dropped me a line and stated that we would be leaving at the end of September and wanted to collab with me. The day afterwards I had an offer to illustrate a book, not much in the way of cash, but still a paying gig. So, just so you know I’m not dead, I’ve been damned busy..

Undersea

I have put the new Undersea by Sleepy Rabbit on the line. The old version cut off halfway through, and you missed out on the full epicerie of the thing. Also, I wouldn’t like to speak out of turn, but I think there’s some very satisfying revisiting of themes happening in Undersea. That kind of thing floats my boats.

Common Misappliances

Filed under: Uncategorized — sleepy rabbit @ 1.16

No worries should be shed over a simple misspelling, I am also a perpetrator of the art of horrible grammar and typing. ‘U’s become ‘A’s, I add ‘C’s into places that no ‘C’ has ever gone before. My spell check program (when in use) has several strokes and a heart attack while trying to decipher some of the longer verses that I spill onto the screen. Actual writing attempts are a timebending headache to read, even to myself. I travel all over the page, sometimes just shift the page around and write in a completely different direction, it is depending on the space on the page and the direction of my thoughts, but all of that is alright due to the fact that I rarely let anyone read my paper thoughts.
